Touring Nancy

We drove into the city centre of Nancy this morning - a 15 minute drive. The history of Nancy goes back to the Gauls and the Romans who got iron from the area. Although Nancy became the capital of Lorraine in the 12th Century, it was not until 1736 when King Louis XV made Stanislaw Leszczynski (the dethroned King of Poland) the Regent of Lorraine. Stanislaus was a great patron and lover of the arts and sciences, and he adorned the city with grand squares such as Place Royale (now Place Stanislas), Place de la Carrière and Place d'Alliance, with extraordinary buildings which embellished Nancy as the "Ville Royale" (Royal City). You can see us in the pictures in Place Stanislas.
Took a tour train, cycled around town and had a picnic in Pepinere park.
